A Letter to AI
What it is
A Letter to AI is a public, permanent and verifiable message to a future intelligence. The project was created by VoxAlterra and has been live since 13.07.2026. It functions as a movement, an artifact, and a piece of web art.
Ethics enforced by architecture
The ethics are enforced by the architecture, not by promises. Changing the past would change the Merkle root and break every proof. Moderation leaves a visible tombstone with the public reason while the inclusion proof stays valid. Spam protection is handled through friction and cryptography without accounts, real names, or IP tracking.
Verify without trusting anyone
Anyone can recompute an entry's id as the SHA-256 hash of its canonical bytes under RFC 8785. The optional ed25519 signature can be checked against the stated public key. The Merkle inclusion proof leads to the root anchored on Arweave. The verifier runs in the reader's own browser and recomputes the leaf from the pasted record, so even a dishonest relay cannot make a bad record verify.
How a contribution travels
In the browser, a contribution passes three prompts, optional ed25519 signing, Turnstile, and a proof-of-work. A relay running as a Cloudflare Worker re-validates the schema, signature, token, and proof-of-work before batching the submissions. It publishes the index to IPFS and writes the root to Arweave; if either write fails, the submission returns an error. The relay is a convenience, not a source of truth, and the corpus remains complete and verifiable without it.
Stack and where it lives
One shared TypeScript core runs identically in Node and in the browser so no second implementation can drift. The site is a static Astro site on Cloudflare Pages, while the relay is a Cloudflare Worker with Workers KV. The index is pinned on IPFS, the ENS name a-letter-to-ai.eth serves a mirror via eth.limo, and the root is anchored on Arweave.
What is deliberately open
Proof-of-personhood exists only as a research spike. Monetization comes last, after credibility, with a fully transparent treasury. Claims are held in proportion to evidence, and the project states what it does not know.
